Vincent's Birth Month

2 minutes before the birth

Vincent’s birth was a very special and stressful moment. I wasn’t ready to have a preemie.  We had no clue how he would be.  Babies born at 35 weeks can either be OK or have problems. Sadly Vincent had a few issues. They thought he was born with a hole in his lungs when it was actually water. There were many different things that cause this and Vincent has the following issues:
·         Weaning off of SSRI’s (my bipolar med)
·         Gestational diabetes
·         Prematurity
·         Hypertension

5 hours after birth

Due to these issues Vincent was put on C-pap.  After eight hours he had to be transferred to CHEO.  After three days he came off C-pap and put on nasal cannula for 3 days.  On January 2nd, Vincent was transferred back to Montfort to learn how to feed. It took him two weeks and a lot of formula changes. Vincent has a milk allergy.  While at Montfort his grand-maman Nicole and godmother Melanie came to visit.
Once home it was a whole new journey with him. We didn’t really get to know him until then.  It was a very rough time, but after a few days we were good.  Vincent still had many Dr. appointments to get weighed as they wanted to make sure he would gain and not lose.  Vincent was gaining on average 42 grams a day, which is great. The average they want him to gain is at least 30.  His grand-maman Saumure came to spend three weeks with us. Mom and dad both got to rest. At the same time we got to train Vincent to sleep in his bassinet.

Vincent is looking cute after changing.

Letter to Vincent from Mom

Dear Vincent,

Since the day you were born you brought joy to my life. There were many bumps in the road, but you got over them like a champ. Mom knew you could do this. You achieved getting over breathing machine in record time. That just shows you that you can achieve anything you put your mind to it. Every day you grow more and more. Your personality is coming out and mom loves being there to see it every day. You brought happiness not only to my life but to your family (Your cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents).

You make waking up every day enjoyable. You lowered my anxiety and I can enjoy life. Going out and doing new activities not only teaches you, but teaches me. I love reading books to you, taking baths and will do this every day. I want you to be strong just like your father. Ladies are already running after you. I don't mind the little old ladies, but mom will run after younger girls.

When writing this letter, you just turned three months old. You smile every day and love to squeal. Every day you learn to do something new. I look forward to seeing you grow, but at the same time I want time to slow down. I still remember your birth like it was yesterday. I look at your first PJ you wore at the hospital and the onesie you wore to come home and can't believe you were once that small.

Mommy will always love you, and be there for you. I hope you achieve the goals and dreams you put towards you. Live each day to the fullest and keep learning. You are a very smart baby.

Love,

Mommy

Details about Vincent's birth

💗December 26th 2017💗

Message that dad posted on Facebook on Dec 29th 2017:

Natalie Saumure and I are proud to announce that our son Vincent Henri Saumure was born on December 26th just before noon. He weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and measured 49 cm. However it hasn't been an easy week for us. We were at the hospital on Christmas Eve and returned on Christmas day when they admitted us. On Boxing Day, they decided to go with a C section. Once born, there were complications with his lungs and had him on breathing machines to help. Seeing him full of wires and a breathing machine was not easy. That night he was transferred to CHEO, and we had to see our baby leave since we had to stay at Monfort for Nat's care. It wasn't easy to see him go, however we knew he would be in good hands. I got to visit him alone on Wednesday (December 27) , which was hard on Nat since they wouldn't release her yet. On Thursday (December 28th) afternoon Nat was released from Monfort and we went straight to CHEO to see our son. He was still on the machines, however they were trying to slowly ween him off of them, which may take a few days. At the time of this message he is still at CHEO however we are told he is doing well”
